Approach to Coaching
Lawyers are faced with complexity every day, dealing with time pressures, inconsistent priorities, challenging work relationships, and employee turnover. Many lawyers struggle with work-life balance and often are hampered by “imposter syndrome.”
Mike’s approach to coaching is to partner with clients to help them navigate that complexity and overcome internal and external obstacles to success. He does that by encouraging self-discovery, eliciting client-generated solutions and strategies to help clients hold themselves accountable for their own growth.
Experience
Mike has more than 35 years in leadership positions as a Department of Defense Senior Executive and a Marine Corps Reserve Colonel. He has been credentialed by the International Coaching Federation.
Mike spent more than 20 years as a litigator in private and government practice in state and federal courts, responsible for all aspects of complex civil litigation for clients ranging from sole proprietors to Fortune 500 corporations.
Mike left the full-time practice of law to become a Defense Department Senior Executive Service member. His SES positions included selection as DoD’s first Director of Privacy and Civil Liberties; Assistant G-1 for Civilian Personnel responsible for world-wide programs in all areas of human capital management affecting nearly 300,000 U.S. Army employees; and the Army’s Director of Installation Services, responsible for oversight of policies and resources for more than $4 billion annually in housing, environment, and logistics programs on all Army installations worldwide.
Mike was commissioned into the Marine Corps and spent 5 years on active duty and 28 years in the Marine Corps Reserve, retiring as a Colonel.
