Prepare yourself before you head to DC and make the most of your networking time.

  1. Create goals — time is limited and moves quickly once the meeting starts. Set goals and targets for yourself to maximize your time.

  2. Research the attendees, speakers and sponsors — view the attendee list (available in your registration statement and in the Annual Meeting app [see below]) to see who is planning to join us at the meeting.

  3. Use the Annual Meeting app — engage with fellow attendees that you want to meet, or follow up with, during and after the meeting.

  4. Review the program schedule — determine the best times to connect with your fellow attendees. For specific networking events, arrive early. It is easier to connect with others before the room fills.

  5. Attend as many networking events as you can — a complete list can be found here. Be sure to check this page regularly as new networking events are continually added (as they are confirmed).

  6. Be confident and deliver a strong first impression — make eye contact, smile, and shake hands. This may seem silly, we know, but everyone can use an occasional reminder! Want to stand out? Create a signature look (e.g., a bright accessory, blazer or glasses) to ensure the experience is a memorable one.

  7. Bring business cards — Hand out your business cards to those you've had meaningful conversations, and connect with your new contacts on LinkedIn and/or via email once you return home.
