Overview (Program Summary)

A program hosted by:

ACC Europe

For any organisation that processes personal data of individuals in the EU, it is important to reflect on potential implications of non-compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation ("GPDR").  The increased enforcement powers of data protection authorities in the EU was one of the major game changers introduced by the GDPR. After a slow start, a significant number of GDPR fines have been imposed to date. Understanding the current enforcement landscape helps organisations address challenges in connection with their data protection compliance programs and avoid complaints or investigations, as GDPR enforcement continues to increase.

During this session, Hunton Andrews Kurth’s Brussels privacy lawyers David Dumont, partner, and Anna Pateraki, senior associate, will discuss:

  • Key lessons learned from GDPR enforcement cases with respect to data protection compliance priorities, including with regard to transparency and lawfulness of data processing, data security and breach notification, compliance with data subject rights, and accountability.
  • Practical considerations regarding the One-Stop-Shop mechanism based on recent enforcement cases.

Moderator: Yves Heijmans, ACC Europe Country Representative, Belgium
