Overview (Program Summary)

Surprise billing occurs when a patient receives care from a doctor, hospital, or other ancillary provider outside of the insurer’s network, and the doctor or hospital subsequently bills the patient for the amount that their insurance carrier does not cover resulting in the non-covered amount becoming the patient’s financial responsibility.  Because of the direct impact on patients, the topic has caught a great deal of attention from healthcare stakeholders both and the state and the federal level, including applicable governmental agencies.  During this presentation, the speakers will provide an overview of the topic and recent developments that are designed to protect patients.
