Keeping up with 2020: Dealing with Political Speech and Remote Work Immigration Compliance

Join ACC Colorado and Ogletree Deakins for a hour CLE covering political expression in the office and our current state of affairs.

  1. Work From Anywhere – COVID-I9 and Immigration Compliance

Discussions include: The current state of affairs with global travel and immigration processing, Immigration considerations during recruitment, and I-9 compliance adjustments during Covid.

  • Multiple Presidential Proclamations and Covid-19 combined have caused a halt in international business travel and visa processing at consulates abroad.  We will discuss successful strategies to overcome these challenges.
  • Some businesses seem more busy than they have ever been while others must reduce force.  Immigration compliance in either case can be tricky but we will demystify the situation with best practices.
  • With remote workforces, employers have changed the way the onboard but I-9 compliance has not gone away.  We’ll discuss using ICE’s temporary virtual verification and dealing with expired documents and provide tips to dealing E-verify issues and transitioning from remote verification to in-person verification.
  1. Political Expression in the Office

The savvy employer takes proactive measures to build a productive and dedicated workforce while also respecting employees’ expression of their views on topics of importance to them.  Employers need to know:

What forms of political and social speech, expression, and action are protected in the workplace, and what forms are not?

  • Can and should employers limit employees social and political expression inside and outside of the workplace?
  • What are the limitations on employers taking a stance on social and political issues?
  • What are the boundaries on social and political expression, and when is discipline or separation of employment appropriate?
