Overview (Program Summary)

In this session, we will explore current developments in state privacy laws and the impact of those laws on specific industries and on data sharing initiatives. Topics covered will include the California Consumer Privacy Act, New York’s SHIELD Act, the Washington and New York privacy bills, and the impact of state, sector-specific laws such as the New York Department of Financial Services’ cybersecurity regulations, as well as the practical implications of these and other state laws on different business sectors, data sharing partnerships, and contracts involving data-related transactions. We also will discuss strategies to manage compliance with these laws and how to negotiate contracts with third parties to best mitigate associated risks.
