Overview (Program Summary)

A program hosted by:

ACC Southern California

The GDPR was only the starting point.  This program will explore emerging, cutting-edge privacy and data protection issues across various industries and jurisdictions.  Speakers will discuss the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) which goes live January 1, 2020, including companies’ obligations to maintain and produce copies of specific pieces of personal information collected about California residents in the prior 12 months, to erase certain information upon request, and to refrain from sale of information.  Practical tips regarding privacy disclosures and other compliance mechanisms will be provided.  Speakers will also survey the fascinating ways that privacy and data protection issues are more broadly implicated, including with respect to the internet and social media, new computer-related technologies including AI and even autonomous vehicles, and day-to-day employment practices including collection of bio-identifiers and use of AI in the workplace.  We will look at litigation trends in these areas and discuss ways to identify and avoid risk.
