From logos and phrases to colors and product packaging designs, the universe of what can be trademarked is vast. A successful brand not only sells more goods or services but allows a company to stop competitors from benefiting from the goodwill and reputation of the company that developed the brand and the brand itself. In this session, attendees will understand how to develop and implement practical and cost-effective brand protection strategies and learn the nuts and bolts of enforcement, including strategies for monitoring your company's brand in the market.

PRESENTERS:

George Chen, Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner serves on the firmwide international Executive Committee and is the leader of the intellectual property practice for the firm's Phoenix office. He partners with long-term clients to develop, protect, enforce, defend, license, and commercialize intellectual property and other business assets. His practice includes litigation, licensing, counseling, and prosecution of patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, unfair competition, Internet, cybersquatting, and other intellectual property matters. Read more.

Warren Johnson (Early Warning Systems) manages all aspects of intellectual property protection, due diligence, budget, and defense, including: procedures for identifying, harvesting, and reviewing inventions from all product lines; an intellectual property protection panel made up of executives, directors, and vice presidents that reviews all inventions for patentability, value, and implementation; and performs due diligence on businesses up for acquisition by reviewing all IP for value, litigation, and enforce-ability. Mr. Johnson also enforces Early Warning's trademark rights; assesses potential intellectual property risks when entering new markets, creating new markets, and offering new technologies; and oversees a patent licensing system.
