Overview (Program Summary)
Hosted by Geoffroy Didier, MEP (EPP)
The use of artificial intelligence poses one of the key challenges for regulatory authorities across Europe in the next decade. Major stakeholders in the debate that has already begun are lawyers – particularly in-house lawyers. They benefit from evolving legal technology, and they need to scrutinize their companies’ AI applications with regard to their compliance with the law. Ethical and regulatory considerations come into play.
A balanced and informed approach is vital in order to ensure that AI complies with the general principles of law, in particular the rights of individual citizens or employees, and social responsibility goals.
In this workshop, experts in the day-to-day management of AI challenges in a corporate environment and policymakers come together to discuss what it takes to benefit from the opportunities of AI in a compliant and lawful setting.
Challenges that are particularly relevant for the in-house
legal community include:
How can AI be used in employee recruiting and ensure that the algorithms do not discriminate against certain candidates?
How can privacy compliance be ensured in AI-driven data research?
Panelists:
Karen Melchior, MEP (Renew Europe)
Ben Foat, General Counsel UK Post
Gregoire Miot, Chief Evangelist Wolters Kluwer
Moderator:
Ilse De Loof, Chief Legal Officer LBC Tanks, Mechelen and ACC Europe Board Member
