Overview (Program Summary)
A program hosted by:
ACC National Capital RegionAs the presidential campaigns heat up, nonprofit organizations face a litany of interest from members and leaders to make an impact. In-house counsel are often faced with setting the parameters of engagement with candidates of all types. The variability among IRC Section 501(c)(3), (c)(4), and (c)(6) organizations can confuse the unwary. While many are versed in lobbying rules, the addition of candidates (even those as current officeholders) have to be navigated carefully. Add PAC activities to the mix, and the stakes can be very high.
During this session, you will come away with clear rules to help guide your internal clients, best practices to manage compliance, examples of nuanced approaches that can help an organization advance its messages without going astray of the Code, and understand why nonprofit engagement results in a big impact.
Speakers
Presented by Jonathan Blum, Shareholder and Julius Hobson, Senior Policy Advisor with Polsinelli LLP; Anita Drummond, Assistant General Counsel at American Cancer Society; and Ann Springer, Deputy General Counsel at American Psychological Association.
