Overview (Program Summary)
A program hosted by:
ACC CharlotteThe past year has brought lots of changes for employers. In addition to reviewing key employment law decisions from the United States Supreme Court, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and the North Carolina appellate courts, we will examine a number of the shifts in regulatory interpretations and policies made by the various federal agencies that regulate the workplace.
Employers are facing a dizzying array of laws, legal interpretations and applications that continue to challenge even the savviest of corporate counsel and HR professionals to stay abreast of the latest issues that will impact their workplace. Some of these issues are driven by court decisions and agency actions, while others have been thrust to the forefront by social action and media coverage, raising the stakes for employers in terms of both liability exposure and potential reputational damage. The topics we will cover include regulatory activity impacting employer liability for overtime wages under the Fair Labor Standards Act , sexual harassment and the #metoo movement, legalized marijuana and the workplace, joint employer standards, the status of Title VII’s coverage of sexual orientation and transgender discrimination, equal pay issues and the challenges of keeping pace with ever-expanding state and local laws impacting the workplace. Are your company’s HR and risk management policies and practices keeping pace with the changes?
