Overview

This one-hour CLE-accredited program will provide attendees with an overview of the potential risks of brand expansion into new product lines, technological areas, and geographic markets, as well as strategies for protecting your brands against progressive encroachment.

In addition to the CLE-accredited seminar, attendees are provided with a cocktail reception and dinner at Mastro’s Steakhouse.

Jennifer Baumann, Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, FTD Companies, Chicago, IL
Jennifer Baumann is Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at FTD Companies, Inc. where she oversees intellectual property, information technology and commercial contracting.  FTD’s brands include FTD, PROFLOWERS, INTERFLORA, SHARI'S BERRIES, PERSONAL CREATIONS, REDENVELOPE, BLOOMTHAT and the Mercury Man logo.  Ms. Baumann began her legal career as a trademark and copyright attorney at Brinks Gilson & Lione, and continued as an associate at DLA Piper in the technology, sourcing and commercial practice group.  Prior to joining FTD, she was Vice President, Assistant General Counsel at InnerWorkings where she was the lead transactions counsel.  Ms. Baumann received her BA and JD from the University of Michigan and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Andrew J. Avsec, Shareholder, Brinks Gilson & Lione, Chicago, IL
Andrew J. Avsec is co-chair of the Brinks Gilson & Lione’s Trademark Practice Group. Andrew advises clients from multi-billion dollar brands to start-up companies on complex brand protection, copyright, advertising, trade secret, and social media issues. As a litigator, Andrew represents clients in district court litigation, arbitration proceedings, Trademark Trial and Appeal Board oppositions and cancellation actions, advertising disputes in the National Advertising Division, and domain name disputes under the Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy. Andrew’s counseling practice includes prosecuting trademarks and copyrights, implementing global trademark protection and enforcement programs, and advising on brand expansion projects. Andrew is recognized in the World Trademark Review 1000’s “Leading Trademark Professionals 2018.”  

Susan Frohling, Counsel, Brinks Gilson & Lione, Chicago, IL
Susan Frohling is an experienced trademark lawyer, bringing more than 15 years of experience from both in-house and private practice settings.  Susan’s extensive in-house experience gives her a unique, business-focused perspective, allowing her to counsel clients with practical and strategic advice on a wide range of trademark and copyright issues.  As Chief Trademark Counsel at Kraft Foods for over eight years, Susan handled a wide range of domestic and global trademark & copyright matters including conflicts, prosecution, licensing, brand protection, outsourcing, M&A due diligence and strategy, designing and managing trademark teams.
