Managing Workers in Other States
We get questions all the time from in-house attorneys about employment issues in other states. Sometimes the issues are manageable, and sometimes they need outside counsel licensed in the state. We help our clients to make that determination. Critical mistakes can be made if an employer assumes that the applicable law will be the same as, or even similar to, federal or Texas law. Knowing the areas where state and local employment laws are likely to vary is immensely helpful in issue spotting and getting to the correct answer before action is taken. We will discuss the most common differences, such as laws governing noncompetes, wage & hour, paid and unpaid leave, as well as employment discrimination laws and their accompanying administrative processes.
