We are excited to introduce you to Spencer Chen, ACC SFBA Member and Board President, in our first ACC SFBA Member Spotlight.
Organization: Subtle Medical
Title: General Counsel
Q: What is an overall view of your current role?
A: As a General Counsel, I do a little bit of everything. It keeps my profession challenging and exciting. My day-to-day is never quite the same, and I enjoy the ability to interact with members of almost every department in my organization.
Q: What is your favorite ACC event and why?
A: My favorite ACC SFBA event is Deal or No Deal - our all-day CLE conference. It is our biggest event of the year. There is so much to learn, it's so much fun putting it together, and I love seeing so many members.
Q: What is the best piece of career advice you've ever received?
A: You catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Try to see things from other people's perspectives, and try to make experiences pleasant for everyone instead of being just the legal "go-to" person. You can still fulfill your legal responsibilities, but it is all about your approach.
Q: What I like most about ACC, and why I volunteer:
A: I have received so many member benefits and resources from the ACC. Being able to contribute to the legal profession and provide those same learning opportunities to other members is a way of giving back. It is one of the hallmark reasons I like to volunteer.
Q: What is something you’re looking forward to?
A: I’m currently prepping for Boy Scout camp. I’m an Assistant Scout Master and Wood Badge-trained leader who will be living in the woods for a week and enjoying the outdoors with limited internet. I am looking forward to it!
