Participate in the ABA SEER One Million Trees Public Service Initiative
Apr 6, 2009 The American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Environment, Energy and Resources (SEER) has partnered with several national tree planting organizations with a goal of planting one million trees by 2014 in order to fight climate change. Lawyers are encouraged to join one of the partnering organizations in a local tree planting activity or to make a donation via the ABA SEER website listed below.
Cities have lost twenty percent of their trees over the past ten years, and have also lost many of the benefits that trees provide. Among other things, trees provide renewable resources; absorb carbon dioxide and emit oxygen; provide shade; provide habitat for wildlife; and beautify the landscape. In addition, one tree absorbs enough carbon over its lifetime to offset one car driven 5,000 miles. One million trees would offset $5 million in air pollution cleanup costs.
More information about this national tree-planting initiative is available from Amy L. Edwards, Chair of the SEER ETAB Committee which launched this initiative, or from the ABA SEER website. More information about the partnering organizations can also be found at:
