Investigate the Benefits of Energy Performance Contracting
May 18, 2009
Particularly if your organization is housed in an older building, investigate the potential benefits of energy performance contracting.
Recently, such a project was completed for the Empire State Building. The end result of the $20 million building retrofit project will reduce energy use in the building by up to 38 percent. While the upfront costs of retrofitting older buildings often prevent owners from performing such a retrofit, the energy savings for the Empire State Building, built in 1931, is estimated to pay back initial costs in only three years.
For more information about this project and how to initiate such a contract for your own organization, contact Jonathan Furr of Holland & Knight LLP, who was a key player in the contracts' planning and negotiation. He can be reached at (312) 422-9018.
