Data & Information Security: Friend or Foe?

Webcast  CLE available

Aug 19, 2009
2 PM ET

Duration: 1 Hour

Presented by ACC's Small Law Department Committee, Sponsored by Meritas

Data & Information security is simply the ongoing process of ensuring that data and information systems are kept safe from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, destruction, modification, or disruption or distribution. Now, more then ever, we live in a world were an enormous amount of information is created, exchanged, and stored electronically. Conventional documents originate as computer files, email is taking the place of both telephone calls and postal letters, and electronically stored information (ESI) is commonplace in our personal lives and in the operation of businesses, public entities, and private organizations.

With this proliferation comes the daunting task and legal obligation to keep the data and information safe, secure, and accessible. Participants of this one hour webcast program will:

  • Learn about the business and legal reasons to address both data and information security including Federal laws and standards enforced.
  • Discuss costs against companies that experience a breach (i.e. response costs, reputational costs, customer loss, litigation…).
  • Review examples in which to identify what went wrong and where.
  • Examine key areas to ensure data and information are secure.
  • Identify cost effective tips and practical policy tips to implement.

Speakers:

Fernando Pinguelo, Norris McLaughlin (Meritas Firm)
Robert Kleeger, Managing Director, The Intelligence Group

Moderator:

Julienne W. Bramesco, General Counsel, Colonial Parking
