LEADING INNOVATION & CHANGE: THE EVOLVING ROLE OF IN-HOUSE COUNSEL

The evolving global economy has affected organizations in many ways. As an in-house counsel, you need to stay ahead of the game and take up new roles to lead innovation and changes. This program will teach you how to realign the organizational structure to respond to industry changes; how to cultivate, mentor, and manage high performance teams; and how to drive innovations in your company and create cultures of innovation and collaborations.

Organizational Alignment and the Role of the In-house Counsel
  • Address the challenges of realigning the organizational structure in order to respond to industry changes, and the obstacles that such internal transformation may encounter.
  • Examine the issues of unbalanced growth and the inherent tensions that are created between departments when this imbalance is not addressed by leadership.
  • Discuss the role in-house counsel plays in responding to these challenges.
Cultivating, Mentoring and Managing High Performance Teams
  • Explore how to form, cultivate, and manage teams.
  • Discuss how to establish and use metrics to dramatically increase performance.
  • Understand the synergy between organizational structures, including reward systems and compensation, and performance outcomes.
Innovation at the Edge: the New Rules of the Game
  • Explore an emerging trend for organizations to move to the edge in order to foster innovation.
  • Examine examples of recent business model transformations (for instance, Google) to better understand how firms can create an edge organization and how the edge organization can be a superb weapon when it is used to maximize innovation.
  • Discuss frameworks for driving innovation in your company and the role legal counsel plays in this effort.
Creating Cultures of Innovation and Collaboration
  • Understand the structures and dynamics of negotiation, conflict, and power in organizations and the value of collaborative environments.
  • Assess personal styles, strengths, and weaknesses for dealing with conflict situations and for exercising influence.
  • Examine the concepts of building capabilities for thinking strategically about negotiations and collaboration in organizations.
  • Explore how successful leaders can engage new ideas, an essential dynamic in innovation efforts.
