Best Practices for Working with Development Teams to Identify and Protect Intellectual Property

The approach to invention capture has three major components: (1) education: educate management and inventors at key sites on value and use of patents (supplement current training); (2) systems & procedures: implement systems (procedures, periodic meetings, documentation) to ensure inventions are captured/extracted, documented, and fully exploited; and (3) recognition and reward: incentivize inventors to submit invention disclosures and to help in the preparation of patent applications. The speakers will discuss their experience in leveraging his clients‰ IP to generate revenue and enhance competiveness. On numerous occasions, they have identified underutilized patents of their clients, prospected potential licensees and negotiated agreements. In "license in" situations, they have used their clients' IP to induce more favorable terms through cross licensing. Steve Driscoll, Partner, Saul Ewing LLP Mark Simpson, Partner, Saul Ewing LLP
