Committee eGroups Announcement

POSTED: Nov 13, 2009

ACC has added a new component to our networking platform, "eGroups." Starting today, all members are on this new platform.

eGroups is similar to the committee listserves and is intended to help you better network with other members. Postings will be searchable by text or author and grouped in a very clear and intuitive manner. Additionally, you'll have the ability to add a picture to your member profile and view other members' information.

So how does eGroups work?

1. If you are already a member of a committee listserve, you don't need to do anything. You have already been switched to the new platform, eGroups, and you may start posting to any of your groups now.

2. If you are not currently a member of any committee listserve, we encourage you to consider joining by going to www.acc.com/committees/join.cfm. Thousands of our members are already participating and this is a great place to find recommendations on outside counsel, get ideas from your peers on how to handle a specific in-house issue, and expand your in-house solution network.

3.  If you have messages from the old listserve in your email account, you will not be able to respond to these emails directly. In the new eGroup, you can create a new post with your response. (It might be a good idea to cut and paste the original post.)

4.  Looking for previously posted messages? Archived messages from the existing listserve system will be moved over to eGroups within 30 days. Until that time, you will not be able to access archived messages. We will inform you as soon as the archives are available so you can search back postings.

What's next?

We're not stopping at eGroups. We will soon begin work on Phase II, which will include group wikis, resource libraries, resource calendars, contacts and blogs, along with video and audio streaming. As always we will seek your feedback on these initiatives to ensure they meet your needs for timely, practical and user-friendly resources.

Thank you in advance for your participation. If you have any questions about using eGroups or your current subscriptions, please contact Michaelle Shultz at shultz@acc.com.

Sincerely,
Michaelle Shultz

To subscribe to eGroups now:

1. Go to www.acc.com and log in to the site using your ACC member login and password.
2. Click on "My ACC," at the top right corner of your screen.
3. Notice the "Manage My Image" link - this is where Members can now upload a profile photo.
4. To access eGroups, click on "My Listserves" (on the left-hand side of the screen.)
5. In the middle of the page, you will see a link entitled "Manage My eGroups" – click on this.
6. A box will open and the eGroups you are subscribed to will be listed in bold. You can click on each link to view the messages related to that eGroup. You can post messages or respond here, either to an individual or the entire group.
7. To manage your account and the way you receive messages, click on the link on the left called "My Subscriptions."

Your options for messages are as follows:

o Real Time: Receive messages as they are posted.
o Daily Digest: Receive an email once daily, at 5:00 AM, recounting the messages posted in the previous 24 hours.
o No Emails: Receive no emails. (You may still view the eGroup messages by visiting the eGroup site.)
o PDA: Receive emails to which you may reply directly. *This subscription type is highly discouraged, as we want to direct people to our site and the eGroups platform (especially when new items become available.) If you are required by law to keep a record of every email sent by you, then this is the subscription type you will need to choose.
o RSS: Receive emails alerting you that there are new eGroup messages.
o Unsubscribe: Leave the eGroup.

Other options include:

o My Signature: Add a personal signature here. (Best for non-PDA subscription type.)
o Advanced Search: Search the postings for all subscriptions with any word or phrase.
o My Messages: Displays messages you have sent in the last 30 days. You can edit, resend or forward messages by clicking the subject.

Some other important information:

As stated above, any postings to the old listserve will NOT be available in eGroups right now; they will be imported in the future.

Add *@egroups.acc.com to your email white list to ensure that you receive eGroup messages.
