WMACCA Chapter

How To Become More Involved

WMACCA is a vibrant and active chapter, with many opportunities for members to get involved in initiatives and projects. We are always looking for new voices and ideas on new approaches to ensure that we provide a high level of service for our members and are advocates for in-house practice. Please consider becoming more involved in WMACCA.  The opportunities include:

  • There will be five officer roles up for election this year:  President-elect; Vice President - Programming; Vice President - External Relations; Treasurer; and Secretary.  There also will be six board seats up for election this year.
  • We are also seeking volunteers to work on various chapter projects and initiatives, including --

Advocacy: Helping WMACCA play an active role in the Bars of D.C., Virginia, and Maryland, and ensuring that we stay abreast of and provide input into any initiatives that would affect our members' practice in these jurisdictions (i.e., regulatory or licensing changes, etc.). We also are considering whether WMACCA members can work together on amicus briefs on issues of significance to our members.

Public Relations and Communications:  Raise the profile of in-house counsel in the profession by working with the media to provide content about in-house practice or legal issues especially of interest to in-house counsel, to provide "experts" for articles on subjects of interest to our membership, etc.

Community Service: Help to organize community service projects that our members, their families, and friends can participate in to help "give back" to our local communities. Great networking for a good purpose!

Pro Bono:  Find projects that WMACCA members can take on to provide pro bono legal services in our communities and help steer members to those good works.

Diversity:  Developing programming and other projects aimed at promoting diversity in the profession.

Law School Outreach: Putting together panels for the law schools in our area to inform students about in-house practice.

Corporate Scholars Program:
Our diversity pipeline project that provides students from law schools in our service area with exposure to in-house practice.

Membership:  Helping us recruit and retain members and getting the word out about the benefits of ACC and WMACCA membership.

WMACCA is now seeking applications from its membership for volunteer leader positions (Forum and initiative chairs, Board members and officers). If you might be interested in taking on a volunteer leader role, please complete our online survey at http://FreeOnlineSurveys.com/rendersurvey.asp?sid=44o73kd76d24ngg826633. (If you wish to apply for a Board or Officer position, the deadline for submitting the application is November 22).  For all other positions, we accept applications on a rolling basis.)  Please also review our statement of expectations for volunteer leaders.
