President's Message

Fellow Members:

The past several months have been full of excellent programs and social networking opportunities.  Katz Teller Brant & Hild provided a presentation on a very timely topic:  "Social Networking Sites:  Challenges and Opportunities for Employers and Employees."  This program was held at the Queen City Club in downtown Cincinnati, and it provided some pertinent legal issues surrounding a contemporary subject.  Shannon Kuhl, with the help of several others, provided an excellent networking opportunity for our June program entitled:  "Member Exchange Roundtable." - Members gathered to discuss substantive area interests & law department management.  This program held at the Montgomery Inn, allowed participants to bring up legal issues they were currently facing and discuss them in a small group setting.  Dinsmore & Shohl provided a program in July involving "IT Contracting Tips and Considerations."  In August, Greenebaum Doll McDonald provided a wonderful lunch and program again at the Queen City Club.  The August program covered: "Debt. Collection/Bankruptcy."

As I explained in our last newsletter, one of our goals for 2009 is to establish more social networking opportunities for all of our members and prospective members.  We went to the Reds game in June with our members, prospective members and their families and all had a good time.  We had over 60 people purchase tickets for that event.  In August, a suite at the Dayton Dragons baseball game was provided by Sebaly Shillito & Dyer, and it was an equally enjoyable event even without family members.

Over the past several years, the Southwest Ohio Chapter of ACC has been teaming with the Corporate Law Center of the University of Cincinnati.  Now we are providing an opportunity for in-house attorneys to exchange information and experiences with law students at UC.  Our upcoming events include another social networking opportunity at Dave & Busters at the end of September.  See the other articles in this newsletter for details about the Dave & Busters event and the student-corporate exchange.

Our upcoming programs include:

30-Sept:  Dave & Busters Social Networking - 6pm - 9pm

13-Oct:  ACC Value Challenge Event - 7:30am - 10am - Queen City Club

14-Oct:  General Corporate Litigation Issues:  Faruki Ireland & Cox (Dayton CLE program)

29-Oct:  Legal Humorist - Ethics & Substance Abuse CLE credit - 3:30 - 5pm & reception

19-Nov:  The Role of Corporate Counsel during Economic Crisis - UC Corporate Law Center - 4pm

Thank you for your involvement in ACC and I look forward to talking to you at one of our upcoming events.

-Best regards,

Tom Hoft, President, Southwest Ohio Chapter of ACC
