ACCA-SoCal’s
Annual Gala Dinner

This year’s dinner will feature President George W. Bush.  Proceeds from the silent auction will go to Public Counsel.

ACCA-SoCal is pleased to announce that the keynote speaker at its 16th Annual Gala Dinner & Pro Bono Silent Auction will be President George W. Bush.  The event will be held on March 25, 2011, at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.  For more information please click here.

ACCA-SoCal’s Pro Bono Counsel of the Year Award, presented this year by Foley & Lardner, LLP, recognizes an in-house attorney in Southern California who has demonstrated the highest ideals of the legal profession through sustained commitment to voluntary legal service.  The 2011 Pro Bono Counsel of the Year honoree is Steven A. Nissen, Vice President, Legal & Government Affairs, NBC Universal.

ACCA-SoCal’s Diversity Award, presented this year by LexisNexis®, recognizes leaders within the Southern California in-house legal community who have demonstrated a sustained and successful commitment to the advancement and enhancement of diversity within the legal profession.  The 2011 Diversity Award honoree is Christopher P. Reynolds, General Counsel, Secretary and Group V.P., Legal and Corporate Responsibility, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

William Davis Harn, Senior Attorney with Southern California Edison Company and ACCA-SoCal President noted, “This year’s honorees represent ACCA-SoCal’s strong tradition of recognizing exceptional leaders within the in-house bar, individuals who have demonstrated a sincere commitment to values that are the hallmarks of our profession:  integrity, diversity, and the equal access to justice.  Both Chris Reynolds and Steve Nissen are exemplary in-house practitioners whose continued commitment and wealth of professional accomplishments have enriched not only the reputation of our profession but the lives and livelihood of so many people within our Southern California community and beyond.”

ACCA-SoCal’s 16th Annual Gala will also feature a silent auction benefiting Public Counsel. Public Counsel’s 40+ attorneys and staff members provide free legal and social services to financially challenged individuals in Southern California.

ACCA-SoCal Announces Bar Review Course Scholarship

A significant aspect of our Mission Statement is to be a leader in the promotion of diversity within the legal profession.  To assist in accomplishing this goal, ACCA-SoCal through its Diversity Committee has created a scholarship program to pay for a limited number of bar review preparation courses for financially challenged minority students that might have otherwise had to forgo taking such courses.

Student Applications will be circulated as of mid-February for the July 2011 California Bar Exam.
