New York City Chapter

President's Letter - Winter 2017

Simon

Season's Greetings!

During this Holiday season, I hope all of our members are getting time to spend with family, friends, pets, and anything and anyone that makes life a little more enjoyable and meaningful.  Life as an in-house counsel is busier and more complex than ever, and while I have given up on the idea of a “quiet” December, we still need the holiday break to reflect, refocus, look back at the year’s accomplishments, and look forward to the New Year and new goals.

So - I am going to look back on what we as a Chapter accomplished this year and I see a lot to be happy about.  We had a full programing schedule at great venues, including our Ethics Marathon at the New York Public Library.  In November, we had our Cyber Security Summit –featuring three intriguing and timely presentations - at the Fashion Institute of Technology. You can click here to see pictures of this year’s events on Flickr.

We also instituted our bring a colleague for free program, where you as a member can bring an in-house non-member as a guest for free to our events.  That program has been extended until the end of January, so please be sure to make use of it, and introduce your in-house friends to our great programming and networking events.

Looking ahead to 2018, mark your calendars now for our fourth annual Winter Gala, taking place once again at the beautiful and spectacular Rainbow Room on February 15th.  Remember, attendance is free for members, and you can choose to bring a guest for a fee…so we are giving you a wonderful way to celebrate Valentine’s Day just a day late! Registration and additional details will be announced on our website in early January.

Thank you to all members who completed our 2017 Membership Survey, your feedback was valuable – we truly appreciate your time.  Congratulations to Jeff Arnold, one of our grand prize winners!  Our programming committee is hard at work planning a robust core programming schedule for 2018, and as always, these are complimentary for members and a fantastic way to learn and network with other members and sponsors.

We are pleased that New York State’s Continuing Legal Education board has created a new category of CLE credit which will take effect on January 1, 2018 for Diversity, Inclusion and Elimination of Bias.  ACC-NYC has been at the forefront of these initiatives for years, and will continue to deliver outstanding programming to our members as our Women’s, Diversity, and All Abilities Groups continue to thrive. As always, the Chapter is looking for volunteers - for 2018 we have a set up a number of committees that could use your help and insight - please contact me or our volunteer liaison, Allison Tomlinson, Director, if you would like to take part. And remember, if you are not a member of the ACC, now is the perfect time to join, enjoy great educational and networking benefits as well as invaluable online resources. Finally, let me wish you and your families a wonderful holiday season and a healthy, prosperous, and happy New Year, and I look forward to seeing you at our events in 2018!

Best regards,

Simon Kyriakides
