Overview

Do questions about compliance with the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework have you scratching your head? Following the invalidation of the U.S.-EU Safe Harbor Framework in October 2015 by the Court of Justice of the European Union, the U.S. Department of Commerce has scrambled to find a viable solution for U.S. companies that need to ensure the protection of personal information from the European Union. While many corporate counsel have welcomed the new Privacy Shield framework, some are looking at alternatives to the array of 7 main principles and 16 supplemental principles of the new framework. In this one-hour CLE session, Integreon’s in-house counsel, Kristi Angus, will share her recommended best practices and lessons learned for compliance with the new Privacy Shield, including viable alternatives to compliance.

Attendees of this CLE session will gain a better understanding of:

  • What is personal information and who owns it?
  • Basics about the EU Data Privacy Regulation
  • Why the U.S.- EU Safe Harbor Framework was invalidated
  • What has changed with the new EU - U.S. Privacy Shield Framework
  • Tips on establishing an independent dispute resolution mechanism
  • An overview of the Swiss - U.S. Privacy Shield Framework
  • Lessons from Integreon’s own experience achieving compliance
  • Viable alternatives to compliance
