Consumer Debt Pro Bono Program is Underway

ACC’s Greater New York Chapter has worked with the Civil Court of the City of New York to develop a CLE Credit-granting pro bono program which meets the needs of the public and has been successfully planned to fit the aspects of in-house practice which differ from law firm attorneys.
The program caught the attention of a group of attorneys at Viacom who were looking for pro bono opportunities. After discussions with the chapter there was enough interest to conduct a training session at their offices (Previous trainings had been held downtown at the Civil Court 111 Centre Street.) Sarah Harp, VP & Counsel, Corporate Transactions and Securities and Heidi Naunton, Counsel, Corporate Transactions and Securities led the initiative for Viacom. A key element of the training was distribution of the CONSUMER DEBT ATTORNEY VOLUNTEER GUIDEBOOK to all attendees along with several DVDs. Chapter Executive Director John Ogden has been trained and has participated on the program: “When I saw the looks on people’s faces at the mention of the CPLR, I assured them that in my, admittedly limited, experience the training was very practical and I was well prepared for meetings with litigants. I found the VOLUNTEER GUIDEBOOK a very useful tool to have on hand for such litigant meetings."
