Career Management/In-Transition Resources

In these challenging economic times, DELVACCA is placing even greater emphasis on assisting its members with career development — whether it's managing an in-transition period, finding that next great job or improving on broadening your skill set.  In addition to our incomparable continuing education offerings, DELVACCA is also providing monthly programming and other services to assist members in having the best possible in-house career.

Career Management/In-transition Committee

Career Management Focus

One mission of this committee is to help our members manage their careers with a goal in running events that help our members develop their careers as in-house counsels.  Another goal of the committee is to provide a resource for General Counsels in developing the lawyers in their departments, such as how to identify future leaders and how to further develop these department members.

Recent events that have been run on these topics have been:

  • What the CEO Expects from the GC
  • Career Development Tips for Lawyers
  • Social Networking for Lawyers
  • Bulletproofing Your Career in Your 30's and Beyond

In-transition Focus

The committee also seeks to provide a forum and resources for attorneys who are in-transition.  We host quarterly "Active Job Seeker" meetings in order to facilitate an interactive discussion about:  job search strategies, resources, job leads, interviewing tips, resume reviews and to share contacts.  In-transition members can connect with each other at this series of events and can provide each other with a support network as they seek new career opportunities.  In September and October 2011, the committee hosted a successful five-week Career Coaching program for our in-transition members.  More information on that new program, can be found at this link.  The committee also encourages our members to attend the monthly DELVACCA Meet Your Counterparts events as a method to network with local in-house counsel members and to potentially find new career opportunities.

LinkedIn - Career Management and In-transition Group

DELVACCA  has a LinkedIn Group for chapter members on the professional networking site, and we also have a Career Management and In-transition Committee subgroup.  If you have already created a LinkedIn profile, you can join our group.  If you do not have a profile yet, you can create one and then join our group. Simply go to http://www.linkedin.com/groupsDirectory and search for DELVACCA.  Then click on "Join this Group".  We use this resource to host discussions and enhance networking among our members.

DELVACCA Job Board

We have created a members-only job board for DELVACCA member companies to post job opportunities for other members (see "DELVACCA Job Board" in the Chapter Links section).  You must be logged into the ACC website in order to view these postings.  One of our goals as a committee is to encourage DELVACCA member companies to give priority consideration in their hiring process to DELVACCA in-transition candidates.  In that regard, your committee co-chairs attempt to facilitate having DELVACCA candidates considered for job interviews at member companies when we become aware of job openings that are appropriate for the skills of the in-transition members. Make sure to let the committee co-chairs know of your areas of legal expertise, so that they can attempt to assist with your job search.

Committee Co-Chairs

The committee Co-Chairs are:  Todd A. Borow, Corporate Counsel at Escalon Medical Corp. and Roy Hibberd, Senior Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel at Dollar Financial Group, Inc.
