FAMILY Project Homeless Connect
Posted: Sep 18, 2009
We just received word that the City of Denver will present its first ever FAMILY Project Homeless Connect event on Friday, October 9, 2009. It will be scaled back in size but will provide services to children and families. Once again, the Colorado Lawyers Committee and the Colorado Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel's (ACC) Pro Bono Committee will coordinate the Legal Resource Area. Unfortunately, we will not host a Homeless Court this time, but we will check for warrants, determine eligibility and place on the City’s upcoming Homeless Court docket, if necessary.
We are seeking volunteers willing to make a 4-hour commitment to provide information regarding legal resources available to homeless individuals. Because of the short notice, we are not planning to hold a training session. But, as always, first time volunteers are welcome and will be paired with someone with PHC experience.
The format of FAMILY Project Homeless Connect will be similar to previous events:
- The event is being held on Friday, October 9th at the Pepsi Center.
- Parking for volunteers will be free. The Pepsi Center is also adjacent to the C and E Light Rail lines.
- There will be one four-hour shift from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Please arrive by 7:45 a.m. or as soon as you are able. Breakfast (muffins, coffee and fruit) and snacks will be provided.
- The City has asked that we wear our PHC tee-shirt if you have volunteered before, as it is unlikely that new shirts will be provided. Comfortable clothing and shoes are recommended.
If you are interested in volunteering, please email Susan Cole at susan.cole@aporter.com and include the following information in your response:
1) The area of law that you practice.
2) If you are fluent in a language other than English.
We are looking for 20-25 volunteers and will confirm your place via email by October 1st.
The City is also looking for volunteer chaperones. If you are interested in participating as a chaperone, you must apply directly on line at the following link. A one-hour training session is required. Registration is LIVE for Family Project Homeless Connect at https://volunteer.united-e-way.org/milehigh/user/events/one.tcl?event_id=10339001122.
We look forward to hearing from you.
