Legal Night Program
Posted: Nov 4, 2009
Do you have 2 hours a month that you can contribute to provide legal information and referrals for individuals and families who can not afford legal services? If so, consider volunteering for the Legal Night Program.
Colorado's ACC Pro Bono Committee has partnered with the Colorado's Lawyers Committee to recruit volunteers to participate in the Colorado Lawyers Committee Legal Night Program. The Colorado Lawyers Committee co-sponsors (with the DBA YLD and the Denver access to Justice Committee - and now ACC) 2 monthly legal clinics to provide legal information and referrals to individuals and families who can not afford legal services. Walk in clients are served on a first come first served basis. Issues generally include consumer problems, immigration, employment, housing, and family law matters. Attorney's are paired with other experienced Legal Night attorney volunteers (and interpreters when necessary) to conduct client interviews. Legal resource binders which include referrals to agencies and organizations in 15 areas of the law. YOU DO NOT NEED KNOWLEDGE OF ANY PARTICULAR AREA OF THE LAW TO PARTICIPATE. For those of you who have volunteered at Project Homeless Connect, the program is very similar to that format.
You can volunteer at the following locations :
LEGAL NIGHTS AT CENTRO SAN JUAN DIEGO Every first Wednesday of the Month Centro San Juan Diego 2830 Lawrence Street
LEGAL NIGHT AT MI CASA Every Third Tuesday of the Month Mi Casa Resources Center for Women 360 Acoma Street (4th and Broadway)
Volunteers are asked to arrive at 5 PM and are generally finished by 7:30 PM. Pizza is provided for volunteers.
For more information or to be added to the e-mail volunteer list, please contact Susan Cole, 303-863-2332 or susan.cole@aporter.com.
