Overview

The health care industry continues to adopt technology at a rapid pace, but the technological advances that are shaping the future of health care come with significant regulatory challenges.  

Please join us as we discuss recent trends in the digitalization of health care and strategies for navigating the associated regulatory burdens.  Topics will include:

Amy K. Dow – Member, Health Care and Life Sciences practice, Epstein Becker Green
Ms. Dow counsels clients regarding the research, approval, sale, and promotion of pharmaceuticals, biologics, and medical devices.  She drafts and negotiates agreements with providers of clinical and non-clinical development services.  In addition, Ms. Dow counsels clients regarding fraud and abuse issues associated with pharmaceutical and medical device development and marketing activities.  She develops good promotional practices, other policies and procedures related to pharmaceutical and medical device development, marketing activities and conducts health regulatory due diligence for transactions in the life sciences industry.

Kevin J. Ryan – Member, Health Care and Life Sciences practice, Epstein Becker Green
Before beginning his legal practice, Mr. Ryan was the Director of Planning at a 700-bed community hospital in suburban Chicago. After becoming an attorney, Mr. Ryan served for six years as General Counsel for a national preferred provider organization located in Chicago that serviced 1,600 hospitals, over 85,000 physicians, and 400 payors. In his legal practice with EBG Mr. Ryan advises for-profit and not-for-profit health care clients, on transactions and regulatory matters, including licensing laws, HIPAA privacy requirements, and state and federal administrative matters.  He counsels providers on Medicare and Medicaid rules relating to state and federal anti-kickback and fraud and abuse laws; the physician self-referral laws, also known as the Stark Law; and reimbursement issues; counsels clients on mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures; drafts and negotiates managed care agreements, physician employment agreements, licensing agreements, and management services agreements.  He also advises international clients on issues concerning the globalization of the health care industry, including the development of, and participation in, international provider networks and the growing medical tourism industry.
