Community Service Day at Cradles to Crayons

Cradles to Crayons, 4141 W. George Street, Chicago 60641

Cradles to Crayons is "Helping kids to prepare…every day."  This charity provides the essential items children need to feel safe, warm, ready to learn, and valued.  Volunteer shifts are hosted in their Giving Factory where volunteers have the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and sort, organize, and quality check the items donated to the organization. Volunteers work in various stations like outfits, library, and the toy shop depending on group size and the inventory, in order to make a full KidPack. If you click on this link you will see the Cradles to Crayons feature on NBC News.

We are looking forward to a group of ACC members volunteering for a two hour shift with lunch provided beforehand.  The volunteer shift will begin with an orientation led by a Cradles to Crayons staff member and end with a wrap-up and an opportunity to learn the number of children impacted during the shift and to take group pictures.

The Giving Factory is a warehouse environment and it is not climate-controlled. Volunteers are encouraged to wear closed-toed shoes and layered clothing they do not mind getting dirty. Volunteers work in stations to inspect, sort and package donations alongside other individuals and groups. There are about 35 free parking spots for volunteers. If you have food allerties or special needs please contact

Gently-used donation items are also welcome when you arrive (see more information on their donation guidelines here). They are always in need of brand new pjs, socks, and underwear all throughout the year. They will be gearing up for back to school so shoes and clothing are a high priority in August.
