Title: 2012 Mini-MBA Program
Date Posted: Mar 9, 2012
Date Expires: May 18, 2012
Teaser: You asked, and we listened!  CO-ACC is offering for the first time, a mini-MBA program targeted at developing skills essential to in-house counsel: strong financial accumen and leadership.
Full Story:

Part 1: Developing Your Financial Accumen
This workshop is intended to provide the participant with a fundamental knowledge of financial statements and key accounting concepts. The goal is to address these concepts from a business point of view, with the assumption that the participant may encounter these issues within their respective companies. For example, a general understanding of financial statements, tax returns and key accounting concepts are often an important aspect of evaluating a new potential vendor, joint venture relationship or business partner.

The workshop will be presented in a practical manner, allowing participants to learn and familiarize themselves with the information while incorporating hands-on exercises to allow for the application and further understanding of the concepts covered. The workshop will include break-out sessions for this reinforcement where participants will work with case studies and fact patterns that resemble real-world scenarios that may be encountered.

Part 2: So You Think You Can Lead. But Can You Follow?
Most in-house attorneys are expected to lead and offer expert advice at a moment's notice. They are sought out to solve complex problems and protect the organization with their expertise and experience. They are also required to follow flawlessly and to anticipate challenges in the internal and external environment and to work "behind the scenes" to ensure that the organization flows without detrimental interruptions. To do so effectively requires exceptional leading and following skills, which are rarely taught through formal training programs.

In this unique workshop, participants will:

  • Learn the difference between leadership and followership and discover how to use each skill appropriately.
  • Discover the four steps of "Flawless Followership" and learn how to follow with greater ease, efficiency, and competence.
  • Learn how to communicate a crystal clear direction so that others can follow without misunderstandings, miscommunications, or frustrations.
  • Develop a leadership/followership action plan that produces immediate and measurable results.
