Association of Corporate Counsel
Veta T. Richardson is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC). Headquartered in Washington, D.C., ACC is the largest bar association in the world that is dedicated exclusively to serving the interests of in-house counsel. With an international membership of more than 30,000 in-house lawyers at more than 10,000 corporations and non-governmental organizations in 75 countries, ACC serves as the ‘voice of the in-house bar.’
In this role, Veta’s goal is to ensure that ACC delivers value to its members by providing on-point practice resources, substantive educational conferences, timely legal and regulatory updates, and extensive networking opportunities in addition to advocating for the rights of in-house counsel to represent the interests of their employers as full and equal members of the legal profession. Veta leads a team of high-performing professionals who are dedicated to helping corporate counsel save time and money and do their jobs better.
Previously, Veta was Executive Director of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) in Washington, DC from January 2001 until June 2011, advocating for the expanded hiring, retention, and promotion of diverse attorneys by legal departments and the law firms they retain. Under her leadership, MCCA emerged as a national knowledge leader on diversity issues in the legal profession, offering solutions to the career challenges faced by women, physically challenged, and gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) lawyers, in addition to lawyers of color.
Earlier in her career, Veta played an important role at ACC, serving as vice president and deputy general counsel where she oversaw the development of online resources and continuing legal education for ACC members. Her own expertise in the in-house arena was shaped through her work for more than a decade as in-house counsel to Sunoco, Inc. based in Philadelphia, PA, where her practice focus was corporate governance, transactions, securities disclosure, and finance.
She received a B.S. in Business Management from the University of Maryland at College Park and a J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law.
